Chaffinch Island Park is one of my absolute favorite places to photograph in any season (see it in winter here). In fall/winter the tones are muted and the light is soft. In spring/summer, the light is bright, the greens are vibrant, but we can still get the more neutral tones of the water as a backdrop. This park has the added advantage of trees, which means filtered sunlight – my favorite!
It is also a relatively small park, which is great for families with little ones. Without much walking we can cover all the gorgeous backdrops! And kids of all ages will find a rock they can climb!
Finally, in spring/summer we can take our shoes off and wade into the water. Bring a fishing net to catch crabs! Collect shells! Skip stones! I love active sessions that combine snuggling and fun, and Chaffinch Island Park in spring/summer is the perfect place for this. If you like the idea of candid photographs in addition to more posed ones, ask your photographer! Candid photos are especially wonderful for capturing the true spirit of your children. I love creating photo books that have a combination of posed and candid photos for my families.
