As the weather is heating up and school is getting ready to let out, it’s time to start planning some fun outdoor activities. For years, parks have consistently served as the best place to go for a family day. Not only do they give each member the perfect way to let out their energy, but they also have plenty of free activities so you can have a day out without breaking the bank. If you’re on the search for the best place for your family, I would love to highlight some of my favorite parks in Guilford, CT.

Chaffinch Island Park

This is by far one of the best places to spend your entire day in Guilford, CT. Fabulous restaurants are within a short drive of Chaffinch Island Park, and there are endless marshy outcroppings sure to please any explorer. It’s a small park and rarely crowded, so it is great for little ones. At low tide, a few tiny sandy beaches appear, at the perfect scale for toddlers. The park features a few picnic tables and grills, Port-o-Potties, and handicap access. Many visitors love hanging out on the rocks while fishing, crabbing, and taking in some gorgeous island views. There is no fee to park in the parking lot. If you visit around dusk in the warmer months, bring bug spray! This park is also one of my favorites for photo sessions.
Bittner Park
1390 Durham Road, Guilford, Connecticut 06437
Bittner Park offers over 130 acres of premium entertainment in Guilford, CT. The park really does have something for everyone, whether you want to play a few rounds of disc golf or try out some pickleball. You can play some tennis, practice on the soccer fields, go for a long hike, or try out the skate park. There are bathroom facilities on the premises as well as a playground. They also offer options for horseback riding or mountain biking. Unlike Chaffinch, which is all about nature, Bittner Park is much more built up, and the perfect spot for sports.
Nut Plains Park
Nut Plains Park, Guilford, Connecticut, 06437
Casual hikers will find the perfect getaway at Nut Plains Park. The Guilford, CT, park offers multiple trails, including one that spans the entire length of the property. The trail will take about an hour and give you some spectacular views of New England’s beauty. Plus, the space is very pet-friendly! There’s a dog park with plenty of space for your best friend to run around. The gated-off area has designated areas for both large and small dogs.
Rollwood Park
Stonehouse Road, Guilford, Connecticut 06437
Rollwood Park is a quiet park located on just an acre. The area is the location of the Rollin Woodruff homestead, and while very little of the house still remains, it’s pretty amazing exploring the ruins. You can walk across the remaining bricks or look at the towering brick fireplace that still stands. There are benches located around the area where you can bring a book and read in a serene environment. If you would like to learn more about the history of the area, make sure you visit the Henry Whitfield Museum just across the street. And this visit would be great combined with a visit to the fantastic Guilford Public Library and a snack from the Guilford Marketplace or Hen & Heifer.
