When it comes to preparing for the SAT and ACT, having the right support can make all the difference. That’s where The Learning Edge comes in. Founded by Mark Anestis, The Learning Edge has been helping students build confidence and improve their scores for more than 25 years. Offering fully virtual tutoring with a focus on high school juniors and seniors, Mark and his team work with students across Connecticut—and even beyond—to make test prep approachable, effective, and stress-free.
To give you a closer look at what The Learning Edge offers, Mark shared more about his experience as a tutor, his approach to testing prep, and his advice for students and families navigating the world of standardized testing. Whether you’re just getting started with SAT prep or looking for extra guidance, here’s everything you need to know.
Learn How Mark At The Learning Edge Can Help You Find Confidence In Test-Taking

Tell me a little about your business and experience.
I’ve been tutoring since 1999, working with thousands of students to prepare for the SAT and ACT. My business, The Learning Edge, is now fully virtual, allowing me to tutor students worldwide. I primarily work with 10th to 12th graders through one-on-one sessions and group courses.
Lately, my focus has been on SATPrac, my digital SAT prep platform. It offers 100+ hours of video tutorials and is a budget-friendly alternative for students who don’t need full tutoring packages.
What’s your philosophy when it comes to test prep?
The SAT and ACT are more about strategy than just knowledge. Too often, students get caught up in complex reading passages or tricky math concepts. My approach with The Learning Edge is to train them to recognize question types instantly—for the SAT, that’s 43 specific question types (13 reading, 5 grammar, and 25 math).
SATPrac Complete is built around this method, guiding students step by step through each type with video tutorials, practice questions, and question banks. The goal? Make answering questions second nature by test day.
What areas of Connecticut does The Learning Edge serve?
Since I work exclusively online via Zoom, my services are international at this point.

What expectations do you have for parents and students?
For parents: Stay informed, but don’t add pressure. I send updates so they can follow progress, but the test prep process is already demanding—extra stress doesn’t help.
For students: Be committed. I expect them to see assignments as a chance to improve, not just “homework” to check off. If they aren’t giving it their best effort, I’ll call them on it.
What strategies have you found most helpful when working with students?
Every student is different, so the first step is assessing their mindset and skill level. Over the years, I’ve seen just about every combination of strengths and struggles with The Learning Edge. Once I understand where they are, I tailor my approach to help them succeed.
What advice do you have for high school juniors and seniors?
Don’t let standardized tests stress you out. They can help with college admissions, but they shouldn’t take over your life. Focus on doing your best, following a plan, and knowing that you put in the effort. If you do that, the scores will take care of themselves.
Anything else students and parents should know?
Right now, The Learning Edge focuses on promoting SATPrac COMPLETE, my all-in-one digital SAT prep program. For $699, students get access to 8 full-length SATs, 2,000+ practice questions, and 100+ hours of instructional videos—a complete package for mastering the test.
